Spanning the river Thames from Chelsea to Battersea, Albert Bridge is without doubt one of the prettiest bridges in the capital. Designed by Roland Mason Ordish in 1873, the bridge was always intended as a showpiece for the affluent people of Chelsea and dedicated to Queen Victoria’s husband. The 710 ft bridge was built in a grand Victorian manner, topped with lanterns and finished with pagodas, lending a vaguely oriental feel. The great architect Sir Joseph Bazzlegette strengthened and modernised the Bridge in 1884. The bridge is loved by locals and remains the only river crossing in London to have never been replaced.
