Only the tower remains from this perpendicular style church, which was demolished in 1870. The church’s name comes from the word ‘Staniggecherch’ which means ‘Stone Church’. There has been a church on the site as far back as the 15th Century, and perhaps even earlier. The tower that is left belongs to the building that was completed in 1675, after the previous building collapsed due to excessive burials, although many believe the damage occurred during the Great Fire in 1666.
