Bankside Pier is one of the few river piers at the centre of London. It allows access to the Thames on several different levels. It acts as a mass transit point for commuters wishing to travel within the centre of London and out to interchanges for road and rail. However one of the primary purposes of this pier because of its proximity to most of the south banks attractions is to carry tourists in and out of the area on pleasure cruises up and down the river.
