Escape to this haven of tranquillity amidst the bustle of Westminster. The Banqueting House is all that survives of the great palace of Whitehall, which was destroyed by fire in 1698. Featuring a spectacular ceiling by Rubens, comprising nine massive canvasses, the Banqueting House was also the site of the beheading of Charles I in 1649. Throughout the year the banqueting house also plays host to monthly lunchtime concerts.
