Designed by Giles Gilbert Scott this iconic landmark was completed in 1939 and powered much of South London until its closure in 1980. The dark majesty of the Grade II listed building has inspired artists and musicians for decades. Most notably it can be seen featured on the sleeve of the rock group Pink Floyd’s album ‘Animals’. Since the early eighties the enormous structure has been largely abandoned apart from the occasional special event staged in the grounds. Plans are underway to convert the building into a luxury riverside apartment and leisure complex.
