This large monument is one of the most imposing along the river bank in central London. Inscribed with Churchill’s famous words; “Never before in the field of human conflict, have so many owed so much to so few”. The monument celebrates the bravery of those men who fought the German air force in the skies above Britain in 1940 and commemorates those who lost their lives in doing so. Regarded as one of the greatest military victories of all time, the Battle of Britain was a pivotal moment in the Second World War.
