These 4.5 acres of private garden were designed by George Basevi in 1826 and have been restored to the 1867 layout. Features include large plane trees, pergolas with wisteria, roses and passion flowers. There is a quiet garden, a play area for children, a tennis court and a collection of statuaries reflecting the very international nature of the square. Belgrave Square has a total of five modern statues, a rare chance to see a collection of modern figurative work all in one single place. The Square, together with Eaton Square, forms the centre of Cubitt’s huge development on behalf of Earl Grosvenor in the 1820s, and is a complete and not modified example of his work.
