Bermondsey is a district of London that has long and illustrious connection with the sea, therefore when the call went out during the two great wars of the 20th Century; the area sent more than its fair share of seaman into the line of fire. Along with those who were killed at sea, this monument is testimony to and remembrance of the many thousands of local people who died on the battle fields of Europe defending our freedoms.
