Bloomsbury Square is one of the oldest squares in London, and has a long history associated with literature and what was called the ‘Bloomsbury Group’. Unfortunately, none of the original buildings remain from its completion in 1661, and the square is now dominated by a road system and the gardens in the centre. The gardens were redesigned in the 1950s and the enclosed area of green and shrubs now has a car park directly beneath it. The gardens also contain a statue of the statesman Charles James Fox.
