The British Library is the UK’s national library and one of the most important research libraries in the world. It comprises many institutions, including the National Lending Library for Science and Technology, the British National Bibliography, and the British Institute of Recorded Sound. It was originally housed in the domed Reading Room at the British Museum, until 1998. It was designed by the architect Colin St John Wilson. The sculpture in the Piazza seen here was made by the sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi; it is based on William Blake’s image of Isaac Newton.
