Brixton Windmill was built in 1816 when Brixton Hill was nothing but a series of open hills overlooking London. There is thought to have been a tradition of milling in the Lambeth area since medieval times. This mill was still working until the early 20th Century when it fell into disrepair. In recent times the mill has been restored and an ongoing effort of local people and the local authority has been made to keep the mill preserved and available to be viewed by the public.
