Built by the Royal Masons in 1250, Westminster Abbey’s Chapter House was used in the 14th century by the Benedictine monks for their daily meetings and subsequently as the meeting place of the King’s Great Council and the Commons, predecessors of today’s Parliament. A beautiful octagonal building with vaulted ceiling and a delicate central column, it possesses rarely seen examples of medieval sculpture, its original floor of glazed tiles and spectacular wall paintings.
