Charing Cross Station is one of London's principle railway termini. Like most of the major London interchanges, Charing Cross has a long and interesting history. Designed by Sir John Hawkshaw, the station was built in 1864 using an innovative method involving only one section of iron being bent over all of the platforms. A year later the Charing Cross hotel was built on top of the station giving the iconic façade that many people get as their first view of London.
