Dickens actually lived in several houses within walking distance of each other in this area of Central London. This is where he lived a relatively young man and is thought to have helped inspire a great many of his inner city grimy descriptive works about London. Although Dickens lived at a time when London was often dirty and dangerous he could not separate himself from its energy and power.
