Charles 3rd Earl of Stanhope lived much of his life in this charming property at the heart of London. Educated at Eton and the University of Geneva, Stanhope was one of the brightest of his generation of thinkers, scientists and politicians. He spent a great deal of his life researching into medicine, but found a calling as a statesman after being instilled with a great love for liberty whilst living in Switzerland. Stanhope was important and influential to British political affairs throughout the 18th Century.
