This public convenience is Grade I listed. Built around 1630 in the Palladian style, probably by Inigo Jones, this former summerhouse is an excellent example of 17th-century craftsmanship, with fine groined vaulting and gauged brickwork. Spectacular views over the Thames would once have been among its other attractions. The building was converted into a public convenience in 1938. It was also used by Charlton Village Guard in the early 1800s.
