Clapham Junction station is the busiest train station in Europe, and by sheer weight of trains, the whole world. Every day more than 2000 trains pass through its sixteen active platforms. Situated on the border between Clapham and Battersea the station has been one of the central transport hubs for London since it’s opening in 1863. The fact that almost every train travelling south of London had to pass through the station meant that the surrounding areas economy boomed and a whole new suburb grew around the station. Although the scene of a horrific rail disaster which killed 35 people in 1988, the station is still a popular tourist attraction for railway and transport enthusiasts.
