Clapham dates back to Anglo-Saxon times and appears in the Domesday Book as Clopeham. Social reformers William Wilberforce, Henry Thornton and Zachary Macaulay all lived in Clapham. Part of Surrey until 1889, it is now regarded as a fashionable place to live, within easy commuting distance of the city centre, Heathrow and Gatwick.

  Clapham covers a pretty large area as it includes Clapham Junction and Clapham Common, which are about two miles apart. My highlights are the Common of course, which is huge and actually quite wild in places, Lavender Hill near Clapham Junction station, which has some of the best shops and cafés, and Abbeyville Road, tucked away around the back of Clapham Common.
