This museum is built on the site of the original Clink Prison, which was one of the first prisons ever in Britain. The prison held people for crimes ranging from ‘being of the incorrect faith’ to theft and murder. There was a prison in some form as far back as 860, and the prison finally closed after hundreds of years of prisoners being ill-treated in 1780 when it was burnt down. The museum is a recreation of the harsh environment that prisoners had to endure, using waxworks and interactive exhibits.
