Crayford started out as an Iron Age settlement and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It was once famous for brick-making, silk printing and carpet manufacture. Now it is better known for dog racing at Crayford Stadium and the Tower Retail Park situated opposite Crayford Town Hall. Crayford forms part of the "London LOOP" walk along the River Cray.
