Deptford began life as a ford near Deptford Bridge, where a notable battle took place in 1497. Deptford was part of the pilgrimage route to Canterbury from London and featured in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Deptford Dockyard was established in 1513 by Henry VIII. St. Paul's (1712-1730) was acclaimed as one of the finest Baroque churches in the country.

  Latest Deptford Review

We live in New Cross but regularly head down to Deptford Market to pick up a bargain and see what's new. Another reason we visit is the Pie and Mash shop on Evelyn Street, Goddards has been there years, quite literally, since 1890. Pie and Mash is a London speciality but primarily South East London and East Enders.

Deptford isn't the most attractive of places but neither is New Cross but it has some great public transport meaning you can get around a bit.
