The Dutch Church dates back as far as 1550, when the King gave the Dutch refugees permission to use the Austin Friars nave to build a Protestant church. This church is in fact the oldest Dutch-language church in the world, because at this time there were no Protestant churches in Holland itself. The church was sadly destroyed in bombing raids in 1940, but a new church was created in the same place and opened in 1950. The church is well known for having an extensive archival system, and it is possible for many Dutch people to trace their ancestry through their records.
