Edward Wood was the 1st Earl of Halifax and was one of the most prominent Conservative politicians at the turn of the 19 Century. Known as Lord Irving for a period of time in the 1930's, Wood was a man of great political influence and stature. He took a keen interest in home and foreign affairs and was instrumental in making a great deal of the reform acts and bills leading up to the declaration of war in 1939.
