This street and many of the others around Harley Street have been home to some of the greatest and most innovative names in medicine throughout the centuries. Ethel Fenwick was one of these, Matron at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital at the end of the 19th Century; she fought hard to change the way that nurses were trained in this country. She successfully improved, strengthened and lengthened the standard nursing training and helped lay the foundations for what nurses are taught still today.
