George Bentham is regarded as the greatest systematic botanist of the 19th Century. His work changed the face of modern botany and all of our understandings of the millions of plant species that live around us. A great mind, Bentham would regularly immerse himself into the country he was studying, learning the language and talking exclusively to the native people. He is noted particularly for his work in the far east.
