The Greenwich Foot Tunnel is one of the architectural masterpieces of London. Designed by Alexander Binnie the tunnel links Cutty Sark Gardens in Greenwich with Island Gardens on the Isle of Dogs. The tunnel runs under the river Thames for 300 metres and is lined with over 200,000 glazed white tiles. The tunnel began as an idea in 1899 and was completed in three years by 1902. The tunnel is similar to Woolwich Foot Tunnel that is located three miles along the River Thames.
