This commemorative monument was laid to mark the 100th anniversary of the Hampstead Heath Society. The society is one of the sole reasons that Hampstead, unlike many of the other historic London villages, has been so well preserved along with its wonderful inner city heath land. The society have worked tirelessly to attract visitors but also to keep the area as underdeveloped as possible, maintaining the original character.
