There has been a crossing at this point since Tudor times as one might expect with this bridges proximity to the famous old palace that Thomas Wolsey has commissioned in the 16th Century. The bridge which is thought to be the fourth on this site was built to echo the architectural style of Sir Christopher Wren, designer of the palace. This crossing was opened in 1933 and offers wonderful views of the palace and river.
