Part of the South Bank Centre, the Hayward Gallery is one of the most important art galleries in London, both for the exhibitions it puts on and for its architectural interest. The gallery is a classic example of sixties brutal architecture and is hated as equally as it is loved. The Hayward is named after the late Sir Isaac Hayward, the former leader of the London County Council. It was designed by young architects of the period including Dennis Crompton and Warren Chalk. It has its own gift shop and café, and has included exhibitions by Lichtenstein and Lartigue.
