This house was home to one of the foremost 19th Century composers to work in London. Although Hector Berliotz was French by birth and educated in Paris, he made London his home for a significant period of time. His best-known work is probably the ‘Symphonie Fantastique’ that was first performed in 1830. Berlioz had a close relationship with many composers and musicians in London and was well respected by his peers.
