Heinrich Heine was a German poet who came to London because it offered a great deal of literary opportunities. He enjoyed living in this house close to the centre of London, inspired by the hustle and bustle of the place. Heine is probably the best known poet ever to have been born in Germany and is also world wide in his fame because of the fact he managed to write in both his native German and English, an extremely unusual move for a poet.
