There are few churches in the whole country with as an interesting history as All Saints. The Queen visited in her jubilee year to lay a commemorative stone that marked the spot where her predecessor Edward the Elder was crowned 1100 years previously. Among other highlights, Egbert King of Wessex held his great council at the church in 838AD and Ethelred the Unready was among one of several Saxon kings whose coronations were held within the building. The church is still working and a popular and vibrant place of worship for the whole community.
