Streatham is an inner city suburb of south west London and therefore has many of the social problems that go with this status. The Leigham Court Housing Estate was built in late Victorian times as a new housing project for ordinary people living in the area. A great sense of community has always existed in this architecturally interesting suburb and for that reason the buildings have been made into a conservation area by Lambeth Council, to preserve the buildings and way of life that have for many years shaped this area of London.
