The Lloyds building is one of the most famous and controversial buildings in the City of London. It is the headquarters of the Lloyds insurance syndicates and exists primarily as a place of business. However, it provides such an attraction to tourists that it has a gift shop selling various prints, books and souvenirs. It was designed by Richard Rogers and built in the early eighties. Whether you love it or hate it the steel and glass-framed building tends to elicit strong emotions. One of its many unusual features is that the lifts are placed on the outside so that you can watch the insurers moving up and down from the street.
