Mallet's Mortar weighs in at 42 tons. It is the largest mortar ever made in Britain. Designed by Robert Mallet in 1854, it was built for the Crimean War, which ended before it could be used. The heavy mortar was made of separate iron rings that could be transported to a target separately and then reassembled. In 1858, the mortar was fired in tests. At the time, a 2359 lb shell reached a distance of 2759 yards.
