Mansion House is the official private residence of the Lord Mayor of London. Situated just outside Bank underground station, it has a Palladian façade, and six magnificent Corinthian-style columns. Its state rooms include the 30 metre long Egyptian Hall, used for official state banquets. It was completed in the eighteenth century and has been one of London’s most famous landmarks ever since. The Lord Mayor has his own court of justice and prison cells within, owing to his status as Chief Magistrate of London. The Mansion House is sometimes opened to groups of visitors by written appointment, if at least two months notice is given.
