The original club opened in 1958 in Oxford Street where acts such as The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton were regulars. It moved to its most famous venue in Wardour Street in 1964, where it gained legendary status with performances by acts such as David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Since the 1980’s the club has moved around a number of times, including an unsuccessful stint in Islington in 2002. The club has now moved to Leicester Square, and with a capacity of 900 and top acts playing hopes to rekindle the status of the Marquee.
