The Mary Evans Picture Library began its life in 1964 next to Blackheath in south east London. The organisation began to amass an unparalleled collection of pictures that would go on to be used in books and other publications around the world. It is thought that the library has a picture of anything you can think of in it. Although essentially the library is a commercial organisation it is steeped in history and often opens its doors to the public to view some of the archives.
