Regent's Park is such a vast and eclectic place that it is good that the designers have managed to separate it into clear and distinct area. Many of the areas around the perimeter have been designated for cultured gardens and mature trees. Marylebone Gardens on the other hand has a misleading name because it is far more like a common than gardens in the traditional sense. Once used as a hunting ground for the kings and queens of England this area of land is now popular for playing sports on.
