Once part of "Hanging Wood", which stretched from Woolwich to Charlton, Maryon Wilson Park is today home to grassland, woodland, picnic areas, a children's zoo, with ducks, geese, chickens and a pig, and a deer park. Hanging Wood used to be the hideout of highwaymen from nearby Shooters Hill and Blackheath. Some were also pursued and captured here. The Park Ranger Service leads free public tours in the park every Wednesday.
