Mottingham started out as a hamlet of Eltham. St Andrew’s Church was built in 1884. Eltham College, a private school founded in 1842, is one of the main landmarks. The cricketer, Dr W. G. Grace lived in Mottingham until his death on 23 October 1915. Other notable residents include: Anton Ferdinand, Carl Leaburn and Alex Walkinshaw.
