In 1977 the Museum of Garden History was founded, the first museum of its kind in the world. It is located on the restored St Mary-at-Lambeth Church. It was originally deconsecrated in 1972, but was resurrected by John and Rosemary Nicholson, the founders of the museum. There has been a church on the site since 1062, with the present building being an 1851 restoration of the 14th century design. The museum itself houses a large collection of tools, books and various garden photographs and prints.
