Nancy's Steps
London Bridge, Southwark Street, London SE1 - England, UK
  Share Location Map

These steps and stone archway are historically important because they remain one of the few parts of the 1831 London Bridge that was designed by John Rennie that are still in London. The rest of the bridge was dismantled in 1968 when it was purchased by an American oil tycoon for $2.6 million and transported to Lake Havasau in Arizona where it is now the state's second biggest tourist attraction after the Grand Canyon.

The steps were originally a means of decending from the roadway on the bridge to a stone landing stage at the base of the arch. A blue plaque was there from way back, before the stage productions or films, stating they were Nancy's Steps.

They had a practical purpose. Dickins simply used them as prop!
