Officially called the Royal National Theatre, the National Theatre has been at its current home since 1976. The building was designed by Sir Denys Lasdun, and contains three separate auditoria, ranging from the 1150 capacity Olivier Theatre to the 300 capacity Cottesloe Theatre. The theatres show a wide range of performances, with everything from Shakespeare to new and contemporary plays, as well musicals. Some of the most successful performances include Hamlet starring Albert Finney, and more recently Jerry Springer: the Opera. There are also various cafés and restaurants as part of the complex.
