Newington Gardens are situated directly behind the Inner London Crown Court on Harper Road in south east London. The gardens are on the site of the former Horsemonger Lane Gaol which was once one of the largest prisons in the capital, standing for almost a century from 1791. Today the gardens are a popular retreat for local people from the bustling city streets that surround them.
