This theatre is perhaps best known for its series of long running musicals over the last fifty years. These have included The Sound Of Music and Jesus Christ Superstar, which both ran for around 3,000 performances. However, the most famous production at the Palace Theatre was the 18-year stay of Les Miserables, which ran for a total of 7,602 performances. The building was designed by Collcutt and Holloway, and opened in 1891. The building was restored in the 1980’s, and is now Grade 2 listed.
