This theatre is one of the most understated and plain theatres on the outside, but its Art Deco interior is one of the most striking in the country. The interior was designed by Theodore Komisarjevsky, and first opened in 1930. The Phoenix Theatre is perhaps most famous for its association with Noel Coward. The opening production at the theatre was the Noel Coward comedy Private Lives which featured Laurence Olivier and Coward himself in the cast. In recent years the theatre has been home to the musical Blood Brothers, which has now run for well over a decade.
