The Piccadilly Theatre is one of the biggest in the West End, with an original capacity of 1400. The art deco interior has since been reduced to a maximum of around 1230 people. The theatre was built in 1928, and was designed by Bertie Crewe and Edward Stone. The theatre is famous for being the first place in Britain that a ‘talkie’ film, when Al Jolson’s The Singing Fool was played in 1928. Other noteworthy productions include the premiere of Blithe Spirit in 1941, and Clarence Darrow starring Henry Fonda.
