Augustus Pitt Rivers lived most of his life in this fine house just yards from the grounds of Buckingham Palace in the exclusive district of Belgravia. One of the best known 19th Century British Army officers Pitt Rivers began to develop an interest in archaeology whilst away on foreign tours. HE started an exceptional collection which is housed in the Pitt Rivers Museum, a part of Oxford University.
