This statue of Prince Albert was unveiled at Holborn Circus in 1874. The bronze statue shows Albert on horseback, and is mounted on a granite pedestal that was donated by the City Corporation. The statue commemorates Albert laying the foundation stone of the Royal Exchange in 1842. Now stuck in the middle of London traffic, the statue appears to be ‘tipping his hat’ to the passing commuters, although it was originally meant as a gesture towards the City of London itself.
